Lusitanos History The Lusitanos where Celtic Iberian people who lived on the west side of Iberia. referred to in literature as grego-romana after the third century AC. It was primarily one tribe living between two rivers, the Douro and Tejo. North of the river Douro they had their frontier shared with the Galacian and south with the Beticos and East with Central Hispania Tarraconensis. The Lusitanos are recognized as the ancestors of the Portuguese people. The most import figure of the Lusitanos was Viriato, he was one of the leaders in the combat against Rome. Other leaders were Punicus, Ceasarus, Caucenus, Curius, Apuleius, Connoba and Tantalus. After Viriato’s best friend killed him as contracted by the Romans, the son and step sons moved south of the Tejo river in the area known as Moura, Portugal. There they raised the family until these days. Sixty years ago Maria Abundancia-Viriato moved to Lisbon and married Ricardo Viriato de Melo Gomes, club president’s, grandfather. Thus, the name of the club. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
